Sessions

The globe turns to the open session.

Timing is a layer of the framework. Here is what each session usually does, when it starts in your time, and what to watch inside it.

The 24-hour clock

Four windows. One day.

The hand is the live time. Tap a session to see what it usually does, or switch the clock to your own time zone.

Clock changes

The weeks when London moves an hour.

The US and the UK change their clocks on different Sundays. For a few weeks a year London is four hours ahead of New York instead of five, so every London time lands an hour earlier.

Short-gap weeks in

Mark these in your calendar. Session levels still work; the clock just moves.

Tokyo vs New York today

13 hours

Japan has no clock changes, so the gap to Tokyo moves between 13 and 14 hours with New York’s clock.

Questions

Sessions, answered.

Why is everything in New York time?

Most of the volatility that matters for gold, indices and the dollar is scheduled in New York time: US data at 08:30, the stock open at 09:30 and Fed decisions at 14:00. Using one clock keeps the levels and the calendar lined up. Switch the dial to your own time zone above if you prefer.

Do sessions matter for crypto?

Crypto trades all day, every day, but its volume still rises when New York and London are open. Weekend and Asian hours tend to be thinner.

What about Sydney?

Sydney opens the week and overlaps with Tokyo, so we fold it into the Asian session. It mostly matters for the Australian dollar.

Is a sweep a signal to trade?

No. A sweep tells you liquidity was taken. What price does next, and whether structure confirms it, is what matters. Everything on this page describes what often happens, not what will happen.
